Bossier City, LA Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

Under Sec. 110-142, no person may abandon a motor vehicle on a public street, way, road or highway. When the city finds one abandoned there, it sends a certified letter to the last known owner giving ten working days to remove it, or the owner may pay $15.00 plus a signed certificate of authority letting the city remove and dispose of the vehicle instead. Sec. 110-143 extends the same ban to a vehicle abandoned on someone else's private property; the affected resident can file a complaint with the office of property standards or the Bossier City Police Department, after which the vehicle is removed and impounded under the same procedure as a public-way abandonment.

Sec. 110-144 separately bars a property owner, tenant or occupant from letting a partially dismantled, wrecked, discarded or nonoperating vehicle sit on their own property longer than ten days, with exceptions for vehicles inside an enclosed building or needed for a lawful business operating on the site. Sec. 110-145 authorizes any city law enforcement officer or designated employee to affix a removal notice to the windshield of a suspected abandoned vehicle; if it is not removed or the $15.00 fee paid within ten working days, the city may tow it under R.S.

32:475 and assess a $20.00 penalty against the owner. An unpaid penalty after 30 days lets the city ask the state department of public safety to revoke the owner's driver's license, and the department may suspend the vehicle's registration until penalties are paid.
