Camarillo Municipal Code Chapter 11.08 establishes procedures for abatement and removal of abandoned, wrecked, or inoperable vehicles on public and private property. Vehicles parked on public streets for more than 72 hours or inoperable vehicles visible on private property may be declared abandoned and removed.
CMC Chapter 11.08 authorizes the city to abate and remove abandoned vehicles as public nuisances. An abandoned vehicle includes any vehicle left on public property for 72+ hours, any vehicle lacking current registration displayed on a public street, and any inoperable or dismantled vehicle on private property that is visible from public view. Section 11.08.080 requires the city to post a notice of intent to abate on the vehicle at least 10 days before removal. Vehicle owners may request a hearing under Section 11.08.090 to contest the determination. Section 11.08.120 authorizes removal and disposal if the owner fails to respond or comply. Administrative costs are charged to the vehicle owner per Section 11.08.070. On private property, vehicles without current registration or in an inoperable condition must be stored in an enclosed garage or behind a solid fence where not visible from public view. Most Camarillo HOAs have stricter standards, requiring all vehicles to be currently registered and operable.
Abandoned vehicle violations under CMC 11.08 result in a 10-day notice, followed by removal and disposal at the owner's expense. Administrative costs are assessed per Section 11.08.070. Contact Camarillo Police at (805) 388-5100 to report abandoned vehicles.
