Lyon County, NV Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

Lyon County Code section 6.01.02(C) names dismantled, abandoned or temporarily inoperative motors, machinery, equipment, automobiles, vehicles, trailers, and the parts, materials or cast-off articles from them as a specifically enumerated public nuisance when left upon any yard, lot, parcel or premises within view of a neighboring residence, public road, street, alley or thoroughfare and exposed to open view from that vantage point. The office of the district attorney, a code enforcement officer, or another officer the Board of County Commissioners designates determines under 6.01.03 whether a vehicle meets that standard and may issue a criminal misdemeanor citation directly, separate from any abatement action.

The owner or occupant of the property must first receive notice under 6.01.05, delivered at the residence, mailed to the last known address, or posted on the property, describing the vehicle nuisance and the deadline to remove it under 6.01.06. Section 6.01.07 gives the owner or occupant 30 days from that notice to move or dispose of the vehicle before the Board of County Commissioners can order the county to remove it at the owner's expense under 6.01.08. If the county performs the removal, section 6.01.09 lets it recover the cost as a special assessment lien on the parcel, enforceable by the county clerk/treasurer through a forced sale of the property if the assessment goes unpaid.

A civil collection suit for the removal cost or a separate criminal prosecution can proceed at the same time without waiving the other under 6.01.10, so a resident who ignores the notice can face both a misdemeanor citation and a lien on the property.
