Framingham, MA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

City Code § 550-24 sets a tighter overnight rule for heavy vehicles than the two-hour general limit in § 550-23. A commercial vehicle or trailer with a capacity of one ton or more may not park or stand on any street, way, highway, road or parkway in Framingham for more than one hour between 12:01 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on any day. The section goes further on Sundays: a qualifying commercial vehicle may not park or stand on the street at any time that day, not just overnight, regardless of how long it stays.

The one built-in exception covers a vehicle actually engaged in loading or unloading materials, which suspends both the one-hour overnight cap and the Sunday ban for as long as the loading is genuinely underway. The rule applies wherever parking or standing is 'not otherwise prohibited,' meaning it layers on top of, rather than replaces, the other restrictions in Chapter 550, including the fire hydrant, driveway and intersection clearances set out in § 550-15. Because § 550-24 does not have its own line on the Chapter 550 fine schedule in § 550-70B, a violation falls back to the chapter's general penalty in § 550-70A: a fine of up to $20 for each offense, four times the $5 fine that applies to an ordinary passenger vehicle cited for all-night parking under § 550-23.

The Framingham Police Department enforces both sections, and a heavy commercial vehicle left overnight in violation can also be towed under the City's tow-away authority in Article VI.
