Framingham, MA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

City Code § 550-23, titled 'No all-night parking,' sets Framingham's core overnight restriction: no person may allow, permit or suffer any vehicle registered in their name to be parked on any street for longer than two hours between 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. of any day. The only carve-out written into the section itself is for a vehicle 'acting in an emergency'; there is no separate residential exemption, holiday exemption or seasonal suspension built into § 550-23. The rule targets the vehicle's registered owner rather than whoever happened to leave it parked, so a car left overnight by a guest or employee is still enforced against the name on the registration.

Because § 550-23 sits in Article V, Stopping, Standing and Parking, of Chapter 550, it operates alongside the general prohibitions of § 550-15 and the winter snow-removal parking rule, so a vehicle can run afoul of the overnight limit even on nights when no snow-related restriction is in effect. Violations of § 550-23 are penalized under the Chapter 550 fine schedule in § 550-70B, which lists a $5 fine specifically for 'all-night parking,' one of the lower amounts on the schedule compared with the $10 fines for parking near a hydrant or blocking a driveway.

The Framingham Police Department issues and enforces these citations, and a vehicle parked in persistent violation can also be subject to towing under the City's tow-away zone authority in Article VI of the same chapter.
