Framingham, MA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 357-1 of the Framingham City Code states plainly that 'in no event will an unregistered, unsightly car or truck be stored in the front yard,' a front-yard-specific rule layered on top of the one-vehicle residential storage cap in the same section. A violation carries a fine of not more than $100 under § 357-2, with every day the vehicle stays in the front yard treated as a new, separate violation. Framingham's nuisance ordinance reaches the same problem from the unpaved-surface angle: § 336-2H defines as a nuisance 'vehicles, machinery or mechanical equipment or parts thereof that are located on soil, grass or other porous surfaces that are likely to result in the destruction of vegetation or contamination of soil.' That means parking on a lawn or dirt strip, rather than a paved driveway, can itself be cited under Chapter 336 even if the vehicle is registered, because the concern is the surface damage rather than the vehicle's registration status.

The Building Commissioner enforces both provisions: nuisance violations under § 336-3 draw a written cease order and, if ignored, a fine of up to $300 per violation with each day a separate offense, while unregistered-vehicle violations under § 357-2 draw the $100-per-violation, per-day fine. Together the two chapters give Framingham residential neighborhoods two independent, overlapping bases for ordering a vehicle off an unpaved yard or out of the front setback.
