Broomfield, CO Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Broomfield Municipal Code section 12-20-090 governs curb address painting in Chapter 12-20, Street Numbers and Names. The numbers must be black, four inches tall, on a white background that is at least one inch larger than the lettering all around. Before any numbers, background, or markings go on a curb, the property owner must consent in writing. Anyone who paints addresses on curbs other than their own must first register with the city engineer on city-supplied forms, and the city engineer can revoke that permission for violating any term of the section.

That same person must also obtain all applicable permits, licenses, and approvals required elsewhere in the code, including the solicitor and business licenses required by Chapter 5-20, B.M.C. Along with registering, a person painting addresses other than their own must post a $200.00 performance bond in a form acceptable to the city attorney. Outside these conditions, painting addresses, backgrounds, or other marks on curbs is unlawful. The chapter sits alongside the broader street-numbering scheme in 12-20-010 through 12-20-080, which assigns building numbers by the city engineer, requires numerals at least three inches tall in durable material, and lets the city engineer prosecute unauthorized number use.
