Corvallis, OR Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Section 6.10.030.010, in the Signs and Signals article of the General Traffic Code, starts with a blanket prohibition: it is unlawful for any person to letter, mark, or paint any letters, marks, or signs on a sidewalk, curb, street, or alley, or to post anything on a parking strip meant to prohibit or restrict parking in front of a sidewalk, dwelling, or business, unless the Section itself authorizes it. Two authorized exceptions follow. First, an owner, occupant, or agent may paint the property's street address number directly on the curb face, but only in durable, all-weather material, with numbers that are black, at least 3 inches high, and set on a white background; anything smaller, a different color scheme, or a different placement falls back under the general ban.

Second, a property owner can obtain a City permit to paint two feet of yellow curb on each side of the driveway approach serving the property, specifically to keep vehicles from blocking or overhanging that driveway. The Section is explicit that the yellow-curb privilege covers only the curb immediately flanking the driveway approach; using or marking yellow curb anywhere else along the property's frontage is prohibited even with the driveway permit in hand. Maintaining the yellow paint once it fades or chips is the property owner's own responsibility under the Section, not the City's.

Because this Section sits inside Chapter 6.10, a violation, whether unauthorized curb painting or letting an unpermitted 'no parking' marking stand, is punished under the Chapter's general penalty clause, Section 6.10.080.010, with a fine of up to $150.00, community service, and/or vehicle impoundment.
