Elk Grove, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

EGMC Section 10.24.010 authorizes the Public Works Director to place the curb markings drivers see across the city and spells out exactly what each color means. Red curb marking means no stopping, standing or parking at any time of any day except as permitted by the Vehicle Code. Yellow curb marking means no stopping, standing or parking between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. of any day except holidays and Sundays for any purpose other than loading or unloading, with passenger loading capped at one minute and unloading of materials capped at twenty minutes, both of which must be actively underway the whole time. White curb marking bars stopping, standing or parking outside a five-minute window for passenger and baggage loading. Green curb marking limits parking to twelve or twenty-four minutes, whichever is posted, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on days other than holidays and Sundays. Blue curb marking reserves the space exclusively for public agency vehicles transporting people with disabilities or for vehicles displaying a valid disabled-person placard or plate.

Section 10.24.020 makes clear these markings do not excuse compliance with any stricter Vehicle Code parking rule, and Section 10.24.150 lets the Director treat a vehicle parked contrary to the curb-marking rules as an obstruction to traffic under Vehicle Code Section 22651(b), subject to towing under the Vehicle Code's Chapter 10 removal authority.
