Elk Grove, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

EGMC Section 10.24.075 bars anyone who owns or controls a "commercial or recreational vehicle" from parking or storing it on any public street, highway or right-of-way in Elk Grove unless the location sits inside an M-1 or M-2 industrial zone, is specifically posted to allow it, or falls under a listed exception. The section defines a covered vehicle by size or weight, not by description: any vehicle or load taller than seven feet, wider than seven and one-half feet, longer than twenty feet including attached trailers, or rated by the manufacturer above 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight qualifies, as does any detached nonmotorized trailer regardless of its own dimensions.

The ban does not reach vehicles actively loading or unloading, performing a service on nearby property, parked for an operator's rest break of up to thirty minutes, broken down and awaiting repair or a tow for up to two hours, covered by a City-issued permit, or run by an emergency responder on duty. Personal motor homes, trailer coaches, truck campers and boat trailers get an explicit carve-out for stays under seventy-two hours in a residential district. Section 10.24.070(H) separately caps ordinary commercial vehicles, trucks and truck tractors, excluding pickups, at one hour on any residential-district highway, longer only while actively loading, unloading or servicing an adjacent property. Traffic engineers post the signs marking which streets carry the ban, and Section 10.24.075(E) makes a violation a misdemeanor enforced under EGMC Chapter 1.04.
