Naperville, IL Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Under Section 6-9-2, parking facilities in residential districts cannot sit in the required front or corner side yard. For single-family, single-family attached, and duplex homes, at least one required space must be an enclosed garage set behind the front/corner side yard line, with a second space allowed in the garage driveway itself. Single-family detached homeowners get one narrow carve-out: an uncovered auxiliary space attached and parallel to the driveway, no larger than a standard space, kept at least 5 feet from any side property line. All off-street parking, elsewhere in the same section, must be on a hard surface approved by the City Engineer, so parking on grass or gravel in that yard isn't an option either.
