Full Breakdown

Salt Lake City's off-street parking code requires every multi-family development to provide at least one electric vehicle charging space for every 25 parking spaces on site, sited near a building entrance and signed for exclusive EV use. On top of that, 20% of all parking spaces must be built EV-ready, wired with conduit and capacity for a future 200-volt charger, with 20% of required ADA spaces also EV-ready. Both counts apply toward the site's minimum and maximum parking totals.

Violations & Fines

Site plans lacking the required EV and EV-ready spaces are rejected at permit review; noncompliant multi-family developments cannot receive a certificate of occupancy until parking meets the standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do small apartment lots need EV spaces?

Does the EV space count toward required parking?
Yes: both EV charging and EV-ready spaces count toward the site's minimum and maximum required parking totals.
