Gilroy, CA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 15.86 authorizes the city administrator to designate loading zones and separate passenger loading zones anywhere in the central traffic district or a business district, except in front of a business that already has rear-entrance loading facilities, and elsewhere in front of any business entrance or assembly hall. Section 15.87 caps the total curb space that can be devoted to loading zones at one-half of a block's curb length. Zones are marked with a yellow paint line on the curb top and side, or on the pavement where there is no curb (Section 15.88); passenger loading zones instead get a white line (Section 15.89).

Under Section 15.92, the loading or unloading privilege is limited to commercial vehicles and to deliveries or pickups of freight, express, parcel post and U.S. Mail, and in no case may a vehicle occupy the zone for more than 20 minutes. Section 15.93 gives businesses without their own off-street parking an added option: with a police department permit issued after an inspection, they may park a service or delivery vehicle in an alley yellow zone all day between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Alleys themselves are otherwise off-limits to standing traffic except for loading, under Section 15.94.
