The City of Buena Park does not impose a blanket citywide overnight parking ban on passenger cars; ordinary vehicles may park overnight on city streets subject to the 72-hour limit and posted signs. Overnight RV, trailer, boat, and oversized-vehicle parking, however, is prohibited without a Police Department permit under BPMC 10.24.040.
Buena Park's published parking rules do not establish a general overnight (for example, 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.) prohibition that applies to all passenger vehicles on every street. Instead, an ordinary car may remain parked overnight as long as it complies with Chapter 10.24's 72-hour maximum, the parkway ban, posted street-sweeping schedules, and any signed or curb-marked restrictions. The strongest overnight restriction in the city targets recreational vehicles and oversized vehicles. Under BPMC 10.24.040, RVs, unattached trailers, slide-in campers, boats on trailers, and oversized vehicles (over 22 feet long or 84 inches wide) may not be left standing overnight on any public street, alley, or other public property unless the owner first obtains a permit from the Buena Park Police Department. A resident loading or unloading may park in front of their own home for up to 48 hours with a log number, and a visitor may park for up to seven consecutive days with a visitor's permit (limited to six per household per year). The ordinance expressly does not override existing parking signs, curb markings, or street-sweeping rules, so a posted overnight restriction on a specific block still controls. Drivers should read block-by-block signage, because the city can post local overnight limits where signs are erected.
Leaving an RV, trailer, boat, or oversized vehicle on a city street overnight without a valid Police Department permit violates BPMC 10.24.040 and is citable. Passenger vehicles parked overnight beyond the 72-hour limit, in a posted no-parking zone, or against a curb-color restriction are also subject to citation under Title 10 and the Vehicle Code.
