The City of Buena Park prohibits parking recreational vehicles, boats, unattached trailers, and oversized vehicles on city streets under Buena Park Municipal Code 10.24.040. Residents may park briefly only with a Police Department permit: a two-day loading/unloading log number or a seven-day visitor's permit, capped at six visitor permits per household each year.
Buena Park adopted its RV and trailer street-parking ordinance, BPMC 10.24.040, with enforcement beginning September 21, 2007. The ordinance states that 'no person shall park and leave standing on any public street, any public or dedicated alley or any other public property a recreational vehicle, unattached trailer, unattached slide-in camper or oversized vehicle except as described herein.' A recreational vehicle includes camping trailers, motor homes, slide-in campers, and similar units; an oversized vehicle is any vehicle or combination of vehicles exceeding 22 feet in length or 84 inches in width, which captures most boats on trailers. The narrow exceptions both require a permit from the Buena Park Police Department. First, a resident may park in the street directly in front of their own home for up to two consecutive days (48 hours) for loading or unloading and travel preparation, after obtaining a loading/unloading log number; the number must be displayed prominently in the RV's front window. Second, a visitor may park in front of the home being visited (not in front of a neighbor's home) for up to seven consecutive days with a visitor's permit, and a household may receive a maximum of six visitor permits per year. There is no charge for either permit. Two-day log numbers can be obtained by phone; seven-day visitor permits require an in-person visit to the Police Department front counter. The ordinance does not override existing parking signs, curb markings, or street-sweeping restrictions.
Parking an RV, boat, trailer, or oversized vehicle on a city street without a valid Police Department permit is a violation of BPMC 10.24.040 and subject to citation; the city contact number for the ordinance is (714) 562-3901. Storing inoperable or oversized vehicles in public view, or on unpaved residential surfaces, is separately enforced by Code Enforcement under the Zoning Code.
