Summary

Buena Park caps large commercial vehicle parking on designated truck routes at one hour, with narrow exceptions for loading, servicing nearby property, or a council-approved industrial-block exemption.

No person shall park or leave standing any large commercial vehicle on any truck route for more than one hour, except while mechanically disabled, or while loading or unloading property, or when such vehicle is parking in connection with, and in aid of, the performance of a service to or on a property in the block in which such vehicle is parking or left standing, or except as provided in subsection D of this section, except as provided in Section 10.36.030.

B. "Large commercial vehicle" means:

1. Any truck tractor as defined by Section 655 of the California Vehicle Code, with or without attached trailer; or 2. Any trailer or semitrailer, as defined by Sections 630 and 550 of the California Vehicle Code, not attached to a motor vehicle, except recreational vehicles as defined in Section 18010.5 of the Health and Safety Code; and 3. Any commercial vehicle, as defined by Section 260 of the California Vehicle Code, having a manufacturer's gross weight rating of ten thousand pounds or more, as determined by Section 26455 of the California Vehicle Code.

C. A first conviction for violation of this section is punishable by a minimum fine of twenty-five dollars.

Full Breakdown

Under Buena Park Municipal Code § 10.36.040, a "large commercial vehicle", a truck tractor, an unattached trailer/semitrailer (other than a recreational vehicle), or any commercial vehicle with a manufacturer's gross weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more, cannot be parked or left standing on a designated truck route for more than one hour. Exceptions apply for mechanical breakdown, active loading/unloading, servicing a property on the same block, or a city council resolution exempting a specific industrial block. Trucks over three tons are separately confined to designated truck routes under § 10.36.010, so heavy commercial vehicles generally have no lawful basis to sit on residential streets that aren't truck routes at all.

Violations & Fines

First conviction carries a minimum $25 fine under BPMC § 10.36.040(C); the Buena Park Police Department enforces the truck-route time limit.
