Garden Grove, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 9.08.040.140 of the Garden Grove Municipal Code lays out the general parking rules that apply citywide, and subsection L addresses commercial trucks in residential neighborhoods directly: they can't be parked or stored in a residential zone or on a residential property at all, with a narrow carve-out for a vehicle that's actually making a delivery or providing a service to that address. Once the driver finishes the job, the vehicle has to move on; overnight or long-term parking of a company truck at a house is not allowed.

The code borrows its definition of "commercial vehicle" from state law: Section 10.56.110(A)(2) ties the term to California Vehicle Code Section 260, which reaches vehicles used or maintained for the transportation of persons for hire or the transportation of property. That state definition is what code enforcement applies when deciding whether a parked truck violates Section 9.08.040.140(L).

The same subsection sits alongside companion rules in the parking chapter: garages on single-family lots can only be used to park vehicles, not for storage or rental, under subsection D; tandem parking is generally prohibited under subsection K; and all parking areas must be paved under subsection I. Together these provisions are meant to keep residential streets and driveways from turning into commercial vehicle storage yards while still letting delivery and service vehicles do their jobs.
