Cocoa, FL Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 20-42 of the Cocoa Code of Ordinances authorizes the city traffic engineer to prohibit all-night parking on any street or portion of a street whenever, in the engineer's judgment, the prohibition is necessary or advisable for public safety, and to erect signs giving notice of that prohibition. This provision dates to Code 1963 § 19-16 and was amended by Ordinance No. 4-88 in 1988. Because the ban is discretionary and sign-based, its geographic reach depends on where the city has actually posted no-overnight-parking signage rather than applying uniformly across every residential or commercial street.

Once posted, a violation falls under the general parking penalty schedule in Section 20-54, which sets a thirty-dollar civil penalty for most stopping, standing and parking violations under Section 20-52, plus a ten-dollar surcharge dedicated to funding the city's school crossing guard program, and an additional ten-dollar increase if payment is not received within ten days of the citation. Enforcement is handled by Cocoa Police Department officers and city parking enforcement specialists, who issue prenumbered citations under Section 20-55 listing the vehicle, owner and violation details.

A cited owner has ten days to pay or request a hearing under Section 20-56, and the city clerk's office follows up by mail if there is no response, directing compliance within a further ten-day window before referring the matter for enforcement under state law and city procedure.
