Eden Prairie, MN Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 8.07, Parking Hours and Signage, opens by stating that parking on Eden Prairie streets is limited, and Subdivision 1 sets the baseline: no one may stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle upon any street for a continuous period in excess of 24 hours. That 24-hour cap applies City-wide by default, on any street, regardless of whether the City has posted a specific sign. Subdivision 2 layers additional, narrower restrictions on top of the 24-hour rule: the City Manager may designate particular streets, blocks, or portions of them as prohibited parking zones, or as five-minute through eight-hour, morning, or afternoon rush-hour limited zones, each marked by its own sign, and parking in a marked zone beyond its posted limit or during posted prohibited hours is separately unlawful.

For enforcement of either rule, Subdivision 5 provides that a vehicle moved less than one block within a limited parking zone is deemed to have remained stationary, closing the obvious loophole of inching a car forward to reset the clock. Subdivision 4 additionally makes it unlawful to remove, erase, or obliterate any mark or sign a police officer places on a tire or vehicle part to measure how long the vehicle has been parked, protecting the enforcement method the Eden Prairie Police Department uses to time violations of the 24-hour and posted-zone limits alike.
