Eden Prairie, MN Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 8.08, Truck Parking, imposes two separate rules. Subdivision 1, carried from the original 1982 City Code, makes it unlawful to park a detached semi-trailer on any street, City-owned parking lot, or other public property anywhere in the City, with no residential-zone limitation and no loading exception. Subdivision 2 goes further for residentially zoned property: it is unlawful to park a semi-trailer, a truck-tractor, or a combination of the two, any vehicle carrying a commercial license and weighing more than 9,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, or any vehicle designed, used, or maintained for towing other motor vehicles or equipment, on a street, alley, private road, parking lot, driveway, or any public or private property within an area zoned residential.

The only exception is for the purpose of loading or unloading the vehicle itself. Because the rule reaches private driveways and parking lots as well as public streets, a resident cannot avoid it simply by pulling a qualifying truck onto their own residential lot overnight. The 9,000-pound threshold matches the same weight break Section 7.02 uses to define which trucks must stay on designated truck routes, so a vehicle heavy enough to be barred from residential neighborhoods under Section 8.08 is generally the same vehicle barred from non-truck-route streets under Chapter 7.
