Lawton, OK Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Under City Code Section 23-6-605, the Lawton city council decides street by street where overnight or time-limited parking applies: it acts by resolution to establish parking time limits or prohibit parking on designated streets and public property, and the rule only becomes enforceable once appropriate signs are placed on that street. There is no default hourly cutoff written into the code that applies everywhere; a driver is only in violation if a sign for that specific block says so. Enforcement typically uses chalk or another mark placed on a tire by a parking officer to track how long a vehicle has sat in a time-restricted space.

Section 23-6-606 makes it a separate offense to remove, erase, obliterate, smudge or otherwise disfigure that chalk mark or symbol with intent to extend the parking time, closing the obvious workaround of wiping the mark to reset the clock. Because the restriction is delegated to council resolution and signage rather than fixed in the general code, residents and visitors need to check posted signage on the block in question, particularly downtown and near Fort Sill Boulevard corridors where the city has historically posted time-limited zones.

General parking and traffic-offense fines under Section 1-1-119 of the code cap penalties for parking violations, including violations of a posted time-limit sign, at $200, distinguishing them from the higher fines set for other traffic offenses.
