Madison has no blanket citywide overnight street-parking ban, but recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers may not be left overnight on residential streets, and a vehicle left unattended on a public street or driveway for seven days is deemed abandoned and subject to removal.
There is no general ordinance banning ordinary overnight parking on all streets, but posted-street restrictions in Sec. 32-131 govern where signs are erected. RVs, boats, and trailers cannot be left on residential streets at any time (Sec. 32-132). A vehicle 'left unattended on a public street, road or highway or other public property for a period of at least seven days,' or continuously in a residence district for seven days, is defined as abandoned under Sec. 22-198 and may be towed. Front-yard overnight parking must be on paved surfaces per Sec. 32-134.
An abandoned vehicle (7+ days unattended) may be removed and impounded at the owner's expense under Sec. 22-201; posted-street violations carry the Sec. 32-131 $25 scheduled penalty.
