Smithtown, NY Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 101-6, 'Traffic and parking,' lists conduct barred for anyone in a Town park or beach, most recently amended by Resolution No. 226-352 on 4-7-2026. Subsection F states that no person shall park overnight, except that overnight parking at Town beaches is permitted for vehicles of campers and boaters, and at Town beaches and parks for fishermen holding permits issued by the Town Clerk or the Town Parks Maintenance Director, provided the vehicle is on file with the Clerk's office or bears a Smithtown Bay Yacht Club sticker.

The subsection further limits even permitted overnight parking to periods when the campers, boaters or fishermen are actively engaged in that permitted activity, so a permit holder cannot leave a vehicle parked overnight once the activity has ended. Section 101-19B reinforces the same limit from the closing-hours side: no person shall park any motor vehicle at any park or beach more than half an hour after sunset, except as the Section 101-6F permit exceptions allow. Because both sections sit inside Chapter 101, which governs Town parks and beaches, this overnight restriction applies only to parking fields, lots and roadways within park and beach property; it is not Smithtown's general residential or commercial street parking rule.
