Springfield, OR Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 6.020(1) prohibits parking in a designated zone, on-street or in a municipal lot, beyond the posted time limit, and specifically closes the loophole of moving a car within the same block face to reset the clock. Subsection (2) lists the permits that let a vehicle exceed posted limits: 'visitor' permits issued by the city manager for meetings, conferences or volunteer work; 'jury' permits from the municipal court; 'special' permits from public works for construction and maintenance vehicles; 'fleet' or car-share authorizations; and paid permits for specific city lots and rights-of-way in the downtown core, including the City Hall North and South lots, Main Street Lot 3, the 7th Street Pocket Lot, the Justice Center lot, the Pioneer East lot, and On-Street Parking Zone B.

Subsection (6) is the city's real overnight backstop: any vehicle parked continuously for eight hours in an area covered by Sections 6.005 through 6.075 becomes eligible for removal by a Springfield police officer or patrol community service officer, with impoundment and disposition handled under the chapter's removal provisions. Permits must be displayed on the dash or hung from the rearview mirror to be valid. Violating the posted time limit itself is punishable under Section 6.060(3) by a civil fine set by council resolution and capped at $500 citywide under Section 6.560.
