Shoreline, WA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Section 302.8, as Shoreline has amended it under SMC § 15.05.070, does not ban RVs and boats from residential yards or driveways outright; it targets the condition of the vehicle rather than the vehicle type. The rule reaches any motor vehicle, recreational vehicle or boat that is inoperative or unlicensed, or that sits at any time in a state of major disassembly, disrepair, or damage severe enough to prevent normal operation, or is in the process of being stripped or dismantled; a working, currently registered RV or boat parked on a driveway is not itself a violation.

Every vehicle, RV and boat kept on a premises must display current and valid registration tabs, properly mounted under Washington state rules, so an expired-tab RV is enough to trigger enforcement even if it otherwise runs. The section also folds in a narrow prohibition on vehicle and boat painting outside an approved spray booth, aimed at the amateur bodywork that often accompanies a disabled vehicle sitting on a property long-term. The code carves out one exception: a vehicle can undergo a major overhaul, including body work, as long as that work happens inside a structure or a similarly enclosed, approved area rather than out in the open. Enforcement of junk-vehicle nuisances specifically routes through SMC § 20.30.750, the city's junk-vehicle nuisance chapter, which the property maintenance code cross-references directly for abatement.
