Wicomico County, MD Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Article IV of Chapter 197, adopted by Bill No. 2000-10, governs stopping, standing and parking on county roads outside incorporated towns. Section 197-17 defines 'officer' to include the Sheriff and any Deputy Sheriff of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department, a Governor-appointed special police officer, or anyone the County Council designates to issue citations. Section 197-19 lists seven specific prohibitions: parking where an official sign bars it; parking in a permit-restricted area without a permit displayed from the rearview mirror so it is visible from the front of the vehicle; parking at a curb marked as a fire lane; using a handicapped space without a valid disability plate, placard or permit from the Maryland MVA, another state, or DC; blocking or partially blocking a bicycle, hiking or bridle path or access road; parking on park property when the park is closed to the public; and parking on park property outside a designated parking area.

Subsection B lets an officer remove or impound an illegally parked vehicle at the owner's expense. Section 197-21 requires the officer to hand the citation to the driver if present or attach it to the vehicle if not, and § 197-22 makes every registered owner on the citation date jointly and severally responsible for the infraction.
