Lawton, OK Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 19-7-713 splits Lawton's skating rules into a permission clause and a prohibition clause. Subsection A allows skateboards, roller skates, and in-line skates on city-owned or city-controlled facilities specifically designed for that activity, and on streets, sidewalks, and parking lots, but only on the paved surfaces of those latter three; it does not open medians, curbs, or landscaped strips to skating. " That means city parks, plazas, government building grounds, and any other municipal property outside the Subsection A list are off-limits to skateboards and skates entirely.

The ordinance backs the ban with a specific liability provision rather than a flat criminal fine schedule: violating Subsection B is declared unlawful and subjects the offender, or the offender's parent if the offender is a minor, to liability for resulting damages under Title 15, Oklahoma Statutes, Section 25, and Title 23, Oklahoma Statutes, Section 10. Those cross-referenced state statutes address minors' liability and measures of damages, meaning the city enforces the skating restriction through state civil-liability law rather than a set municipal fine. The section was added by Ordinance 2007-40 on June 26, 2007, and has not been amended since, so the streets-sidewalks-parking-lots permission zone has stood unchanged for nearly two decades.
