Louisburg, KS Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 11-209 regulates skateboards, roller skates, and street skates by name, defining 'skate' as operating or riding any of them and 'eject' as the power officers get under subsection (g). Subsection (c) draws a hard boundary: no one may roller skate or ride a skateboard on the streets, sidewalks, or other public space inside the central business district, the area bounded by Amity (K-68 Highway), South Third, Peoria, and Mulberry Streets. Outside that zone, subsection (d) still bans reckless or careless skating on any sidewalk or paved pedestrian surface likely to injure a person or damage property.

A violation is an unclassified misdemeanor under subsection (e), punishable by a fine of $25 to $200, a specific penalty that supersedes the Code's general $499/179-day default. Subsection (f) adds a separate consequence: an officer may impound the skateboard or skates for seven to fourteen days. An adult retrieves the equipment from the Louisburg Police Department after the hold expires by showing identification; a minor must appear with a parent or guardian, though a parent living outside the City limits may instead send a letter authorizing release to the minor. Subsection (g) lets an officer eject anyone using a skateboard or skates from the central business district, independent of the fine and the impoundment.
