Old Bridge, NJ Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Article III of Chapter 52, adopted by Ordinance No. 39-00 on September 11, 2000, sets the Township's only codified skateboarding rules, and they apply specifically to the Skate Park located in Veteran's Park rather than to skateboarding generally on Old Bridge streets and sidewalks. Section 52-8 restricts the facility to skateboards, in-line skates and BMX bicycles only (Subsection A) and requires that helmets, elbow pads and knee pads be worn at all times (Subsection B). Non-skaters are barred from the riding surface and ramps under Subsection C, and riders may not bring in personal ramps, rails, boxes or any other jump apparatus under Subsection D.

Food and drink are limited to water in plastic bottles (Subsection E), horseplay and aggressive behavior are banned outright (Subsection F), and motorized skateboards, bicycles, scooters or cycles are excluded entirely under Subsection G. Section 52-9 ties the park's skating hours to regular hours of park operation, dawn until dusk unless lighted, so riders lose the space at dusk unless the Township has the lights on. Section 52-10 requires that any accident or rule infraction be reported immediately to the Park Supervisor and the Old Bridge Police Department, giving the Township a direct enforcement channel distinct from a standard summons.

Because Chapter 52 sets no separate fine for a Skate Park violation, an enforcement action falls back to the general municipal penalty in § 1-3: up to $1,250, up to 90 days in jail, or up to 90 days of community service.
