Yuba City, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Article 21 of Chapter 9, Title 4 of the Yuba City Municipal Code, added by Ordinance 12-93, effective October 21, 1993, sets the City's skateboard, roller skate and in-line skate rules. 2101 makes it unlawful to ride or propel any of the three on a sidewalk or street so as to interfere with pedestrian or vehicular traffic. Riding is not banned outright on public rights-of-way; the violation turns on interference with others' use of the space. 2102 bars skating on private property without the owner's consent, but that ban is only enforceable if the owner posts a 'No Skating' sign at every clearly defined entryway referencing the section, except single-family residential property, which is protected without any sign requirement.

2103: skating on public property is unlawful only where the property owner posts a sign at each entryway prohibiting the conduct and citing the section. 2104 clarifies that a sign banning roller skating is read to cover in-line skating and skateboarding too, unless it says otherwise. 2105 imposes an absolute prohibition: no one may ride or propel a skateboard, roller skate or in-line skate on any public sidewalk or street, or on private property open to public access, in a manner that endangers the property, safety or well-being of any person, regardless of postings.
