Piscataway, NJ Short-Term Rentals: Host Platform Liability (2026)

Section 15-8.a makes it unlawful for a Booking Service to charge, collect or receive a fee in connection with a short-term rental unless it has registered that listing with the Code Enforcement Officer to verify the property has the required STR permit. Registration itself is an annual obligation: the Booking Service must provide the Code Enforcement Officer with its official name, mailing address, and the name and direct contact information for a company representative, along with paying the registration fee. Section 15-8.b adds a per-listing verification duty for every STR advertised in Piscataway through that platform: the Booking Service must supply the listing's URL or identifier, the host's name, and the physical address of the dwelling unit, and the Code Enforcement Officer (or a designee) checks that the host's full legal name and the unit's address on the permit match what the platform reported.

A Booking Service must reconfirm an active registration whenever it knows or should know that verification data has changed, and must reverify every registration at least once a year regardless. Section 15-8.c fixes the price of admission for platforms operating in the Township at an annual Booking Service registration fee of $100, distinct from the $250 host permit fee charged to property owners under Chapter 15's earlier sections.
