STR guests in Long Beach must comply with the city's noise ordinance LBMC Ch. 8.80. Quiet hours and construction hour restrictions apply. STR operators are responsible for ensuring guest compliance with local noise standards.
Under LBMC Chapter 5.77, all short-term rental operations must comply with the City's noise ordinance (LBMC Chapter 8.80). Use of all outdoor pools, spas, and hot tubs at STR properties is prohibited between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM. Hosts must post a notice within the unit containing required information including maximum number of guests, parking information, recycling/trash details, emergency contacts, and evacuation plans. The operator and property owner are jointly responsible for any nuisance violations arising during short-term rental activities. Repeated violations constitute a nuisance as defined under LBMC Chapter 9.37. Maximum occupancy limits of 2 persons per bedroom plus 2 with a maximum of 10 total including children and hosts help control noise. Events exceeding maximum occupancy require an Occasional Event Permit from the Long Beach Special Events office.
The operator and property owner are jointly liable. Three violations automatically prevent annual STR registration renewal. Nuisance complaints can be filed 24/7 at (562) 568-8665. General noise violations carry fines up to $500 per LBMC 8.80.
