Since October 1, 2022, all short-term rentals operated within Irving city limits must be registered with the city. The registration fee is $200 annually. The ordinance was updated by Ordinance 2025-11095 (adopted April 10, 2025), replacing the original 2022 registration framework. STRs are defined as single-family residential structures or portions thereof used for lodging for less than 30 consecutive days. Operators must designate a local agent at least 21 years old who can respond to issues within 1 hour. STRs may not be advertised or operated as event centers, rental halls, or commercial assembly uses. Registration may be revoked for repeated noncompliance, false statements, or failure to pay hotel occupancy taxes. A revoked registrant cannot reapply for 12 months.
