West Jordan, UT Sign Regulations: Digital Billboards (2026)

Section 12-3-3(D)(5) sets a hard numeric ceiling on West Jordan billboards: the sum of every conforming and nonconforming billboard in the city, digital or static, cannot exceed 14. That total splits geographically, with up to seven billboards allowed east of Bangerter Highway and up to seven west of it; a sign on a lot directly adjacent to either side of Bangerter Highway can count toward either half's limit.

Digital displays carry their own separation math layered on top of the citywide cap. Under subsection D(4), a digital billboard cannot sit closer than 300 feet to a residential zoning district boundary, and that buffer grows to 500 feet if the planning commission determines through the conditional use permit process that the display faces a residential area. Digital billboards must also keep 1,250 feet between themselves and any other billboard, though the planning commission can shrink that distance where extenuating circumstances such as reducing ambient-light impacts or mitigating safety concerns justify it, as long as the gap never drops below 750 feet. Converting an existing static billboard into a digital one does not add a new sign against the 14-sign cap, but the converted sign cannot grow larger or taller than the sign it replaced, and a single-faced sign cannot become a double-faced one in the conversion. New digital billboards are limited to a double-sided configuration where both faces sit at the same elevation and are not visible from the same vantage point at once.
