Escondido garage sale signs: max 4 sq ft, placed on private property only with owner permission. NO signs on utility poles, street trees, or public right-of-way. Must be removed within 24 hours of sale end.
Escondido Municipal Code §33-835 (Temporary Signs) allows residents to post garage sale signs up to 4 square feet in area for a total of 72 hours surrounding the sale. Signs may only be placed on private property with the consent of the property owner. Posting signs on any public property — utility poles, street light standards, traffic signs, median trees, parkway strips, or fences around city facilities — is prohibited. Code Enforcement and Public Works actively remove illegal signs, especially along major corridors like Valley Parkway, El Norte Parkway, and Centre City Parkway. Each illegally posted sign is a separate citation.
Each illegally posted sign: $50 first offense, $100 second, $250+ per sign for chronic violators under Muni Code §33-835.12. Public Works may bill sign-removal time to offenders.
