Homestead, FL Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Sec. 16-143, part of Chapter 16, Article VII on yard sales, flatly prohibits posting a sign advertising a yard sale on any tree, pole or other property located in the public right-of-way, and separately bars posting a sign on someone else's private property without first getting that owner's prior written consent. The sign rule operates alongside Homestead's broader yard sale permit scheme: a yard sale lasting more than one day but not more than two requires a permit under Sec. 00 for each one after, expiring 48 hours from the time and date on the permit.

The applicant for that permit must sign an affidavit confirming no more than one prior yard sale was held in the preceding twelve months and that it did not exceed one day, under Sec. 16-142. A 'yard sale' is defined in Sec. 16-141(c) as a sale of goods by individuals in a residential area that would otherwise be disposed of, given away or traded, excluding new goods normally sold in a store. Because the sign restriction sits inside this same article, it applies to every permitted yard sale in the city, whether a one-day or two-day sale, and a violation is enforceable the same way as other yard sale article violations, through the city's general code enforcement process.
