Tamarac, FL Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Land Development Code § 10-4.10(H)(1) treats a garage or yard sale sign as a temporary sign for a residential or nonprofit activity, the same category used for a real estate open house or an estate sale. A homeowner in the City of Tamarac may put out up to four such signs at once: a maximum of one on-site, on the seller's own lot, and up to three placed off-site to direct traffic, with no more than one sign per turning movement along the route. Signs may go up a maximum of twelve times in a calendar year.

Every sign in this category is limited to three square feet in area and three feet in height, cannot be illuminated, and must be built of materials sturdy enough to withstand wind and storms; cardboard, poster board and paper are specifically barred. A sign cannot carry balloons, ribbons or a loudspeaker attached to it. Placement is also restricted: no sign may create a traffic hazard as determined by City staff, and none may go in a state right-of-way, a traffic median, a public sidewalk or a bicycle path, though a sign may be placed within the City's own right-of-way in a residential district as long as it is not attached to a tree, fence, utility pole, light post or street sign.

A sign on private property besides the seller's own requires the written permission of that property owner. Separately, the Land Development Code caps garage or yard sales themselves at three per year on the same lot, and in the R-3 multi-family district only the homeowners' association or management company, not an individual resident, may hold one.
