Tamarac, FL Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

The Land Development Code caps window signage at 40 percent of the total window area per building or bay frontage, with total window area defined as the contiguous window panels separated by dividers or mullions less than six inches wide. Window signs must be professionally drawn, placed, or constructed, and the rule reaches any sign located within two feet of the window, not just signs affixed directly to the glass. Character or graphic height on a window sign is capped at eight inches, and logos cannot exceed that same height limit; signs cannot be placed across window dividers or mullions regardless of size, and a sign must be kept in a condition that maintains the original aesthetic appearance of the structure.

One illuminated window sign, including a sign with exposed neon tubing, may be displayed per window, but it must be statically illuminated, cannot flash or scroll, and still counts toward the overall 40 percent coverage allowance rather than being additional to it. Business-hours and open signs are a narrow carve-out: one of each is allowed per building or bay entrance on the primary frontage, capped at three square feet apiece, and those two signs are specifically excluded from the window sign coverage percentage. Existing nonconforming window signs when the code took effect had up to 24 months to come into compliance.
