Woodland, CA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 17.84.370(A)(1)(e) folds garage sale signage into the City's general temporary sign rules: only temporary signs that conform to the standards in Chapter 17.72, Signs are permitted for a yard sale, and none of them may be posted earlier than one day before the sale event takes place. That one-day posting window means a resident planning a Saturday sale cannot legally put up yard sale signs before Friday, and the signs, like the sale itself, fall under the same no-permit temporary use exemption that caps sales at two per year and two consecutive weekends.

Section 17.84.370(A)(1)(f) adds a placement rule for the sale itself: the display of property for sale must be located at least five feet from the property line, keeping tables, racks, and merchandise off the sidewalk and out of the public right-of-way. Read together, these two subsections mean a compliant Woodland yard sale sign is temporary, dimensionally standard under Chapter 17.72, posted no more than a day ahead of time, and the sale display it advertises sits back from the street rather than crowding the frontage.

Signs that do not meet Chapter 17.72's general standards, or that go up more than a day early, lose the benefit of the no-permit exemption altogether.
