Woodland, CA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 17.64.100, Vehicle/Truck Parking and Storage, applies to commercial truck storage, recreational vehicles, boats, trailers, portable storage, inoperable vehicles, permanent trailers, and portable storage or ISO containers in every zone (subsection A). For commercial trucks, subsection B.5, Surface Paving, requires all parking and maneuvering areas to be graded, prepared, and paved or surfaced to parking-lot standards, and states flatly that truck parking on an unimproved surface is prohibited. The recreational vehicle rules in subsection C impose the same paving logic on residential storage: in the R-L, N-P, and R-LM zones, subsection C.2.a allows one recreational vehicle to be stored off the street on a residential lot only if it is parked on an impervious surface, and subsection C.2.d requires that it be reached by an approved driveway approach without driving over a curb, parkway landscaping, or utility infrastructure.

In all other zones, subsection C.3.e repeats the same rule for RV parking generally: parking areas must be graded, prepared, and paved or surfaced to parking-lot standards, and parking on an unimproved surface is prohibited there too. Subsection D applies a related rule to inoperable vehicles, which may be stored in residential districts only on non-permeable surfaces in a garage, or in a rear or side yard, limited to one per lot. Together these subsections make an unpaved driveway, side yard, or lawn an unlawful parking surface for a truck, RV, or inoperable vehicle anywhere in the city.
