Summary

Full Breakdown

UDC Section 7.3.V treats solar panels as an accessory structure. On a pitched roof a panel may rise no more than 18 inches; on a flat roof up to 40 feet tall the system is capped at six feet above the roof surface, and above 40 feet at 15 feet. Roof-mounted systems are excluded from building height calculations. Building-mounted panels may project two feet from a facade and must read as an architectural feature. Freestanding systems are allowed only in the interior side and rear yard, with a maximum height of eight feet. Panels must be placed so concentrated radiation or glare is not directed onto nearby properties or roadways. Permits run through the LSUCCC codes adopted by Section 22-26.
