Montebello, CA Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Section 12.24.280 of the Montebello Municipal Code makes public park reservations available year-round to Montebello residents and user groups for informal or neighborhood gatherings, submitted to the recreation and community services department and governed by facility usage policies the department director sets. The section lists six situations that specifically require a reservation or permit: organized-team use of athletic fields for practices, games or tournaments; use of city facilities outside normal business hours; picnic shelter reservations that guarantee exclusive use for the reservation day; a temporary use permit for special events and outdoor activities under Chapter 12.16.010; further review and special permits under Chapter 12.17.040 for some uses of park space; and use of facilities for private instruction, training, classes, camps or clinics.

The director publishes the resulting facility usage policies, including park facility rules of conduct, on the city website and at the recreation and community services office, and can amend them to address public safety concerns; all city ordinances remain enforceable on top of those rules. Fees and charges tied to reservations can be changed by resolution of the city council rather than by ordinance amendment, so current pricing is set administratively. The section was added in the January 24, 2024 rewrite of Chapter 12.24 under Ordinance No. 2471 and amended again by Ordinance No. 2482 on May 14, 2025.
