Isleton, CA Swimming Pools & Spas: Fencing & Safety Requirements (2026)

Pool safety is regulated by state law in California, and Isleton enforces the Swimming Pool Safety Act (Health and Safety Code 115920 through 115929). A private residential pool deeper than 18 inches must be enclosed by a barrier at least 60 inches (5 feet) tall measured from the outside, with no more than 2 inches between the bottom of the fence and the ground, no openings larger than 4 inches, and no horizontal rails or climbable elements within 45 inches of grade on the pool side.

Gates must open outward from the pool, be self-closing and self-latching, with the latch at least 54 inches above grade. Pools built after January 1 2007 must include at least 2 additional approved safety features such as an ASTM-rated safety cover, removable mesh fencing, self-closing doors leading to the pool area with alarms, or similar. Real estate disclosure is required at sale. The city enforces through the building permit process and periodic complaint-driven inspections.
