Full Breakdown

Under GGMC and the adopted 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, all swimming pool and spa construction requires building permits from the Building and Safety Division. Setback requirements for single-family residential pools include a minimum 5-foot setback from side and rear property lines and 20 feet from the front property line, or as required by the California Building Code, whichever is greater. A minimum 6-foot separation between swimming pools and any structures is required. Ground-mounted mechanical equipment including pool or spa heaters, pumps, and filters may be located in a side yard setback provided the equipment is screened from view from all public rights-of-way. Electrical permits are also required for pool equipment and lighting.
