Section 94.37 of the Hamden Code of Ordinances governs where and how refuse containers sit on a property. Subsection (A) requires that garbage be stored in a place not visible from the street, kept in approved containers maintained in good condition, and kept closed at all times, with storage capped at seven days unless the Health Director orders a shorter period for cause. Subsection (G), the core placement-timing rule, allows approved containers to be placed at curbside no more than 24 hours before scheduled collection and requires empty containers to be removed from the curbside or street within 24 hours after collection.

That two-part window means a resident cannot leave bins out for days awaiting pickup, nor leave them sitting empty at the curb once the truck has come and gone. The chapter also bars combining refuse with 'unacceptable waste' such as hazardous or radioactive material in the same container, and requires that appliances like refrigerators and freezers have their doors removed from the hinges before being set out for collection or stored anywhere accessible. Enforcement of the storage and placement rules falls to the town's general solid-waste penalty provision rather than a section-specific fine, giving Public Works and the Health Director a straightforward $50 citation to issue against noncompliant households.
