Jackson, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 216-14B requires every owner, tenant, lessee or occupant to place garbage, rubbish and refuse receptacles at the curbline in front of the property before 6:00 a.m. on the day designated for collection; where a building fronts a street without improved curbs, the receptacle instead goes at the point where the street and the physical boundary of the property meet, or wherever reasonable safety otherwise dictates. Section 216-13L requires the same containers to be removed from the curb or other authorized pickup point by 9:00 p.m. on the same day they are collected, so bins cannot sit out overnight or for extended periods between pickups.

Section 216-13I requires each container to be staked or otherwise stabilized so it cannot be readily overturned by an animal or a child, with metal receptacles fitted with a tight-fitting lid and plastic bags properly sealed; if a container is overturned by someone other than the collector, the property owner must promptly clean up the spillage and restore it to the receptacle. Section 216-14C limits any resident to eight receptacles per collection day, no more than 50 pounds each, split so no more than four hold yard trimmings and no more than four hold refuse, garbage or rubbish, unless the collector agrees to a larger amount by special arrangement.
