Jackson, NJ Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Section 216-21F makes recycling mandatory for every resident, homeowner and renter in Jackson Township, requiring separation of recyclable material from other solid waste as directed by the Ocean County Solid Waste Plan and N.J.A.C. 7:26A. Section 216-21G extends the same mandatory duty to businesses, commercial and institutional establishments, educational institutions, and civic, religious and nonprofit organizations, though these entities must arrange and pay for their own hauling rather than relying on township pickup; any business that hires its own hauler must report the tonnage recycled to the Municipal Recycling Coordinator by March 30 each year covering the prior calendar year.

Once placed at curbside or brought to a dropoff center, recyclable material becomes township property under § 216-21B, and it is a separate offense under § 216-21C for anyone other than an authorized collector to pick it up. The Recycling Coordinator, working with the Township Council by resolution, sets the days, times and sorting rules for curbside collection, and copies of those rules are kept on file with the Township Clerk. The Township Council can exempt a commercial or institutional property from the source-separation duty of § 216-22 under § 216-28 if that entity already recycles by other means, but only after that business files written proof of the prior year's recycled tonnage by June 1.
