Jackson, NJ Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Township Code § 216-7 makes solid waste collection service mandatory for every responsible solid waste generator in Jackson Township. Owners of single-family homes who have not already arranged service must enter into a contract for regular collection with a private hauler licensed to operate in the township, unless they personally transport their own household waste directly to the disposal facility the township uses. The same contract duty applies to multifamily buildings, where the property owner must also supply enough containers for nonrecyclable waste, and to every commercial or institutional building.

A resident who self-hauls must furnish proof of that arrangement to the Township at least once every 12 months, which can be submitted along with the annual property tax payment to the Tax Collector. Collection hours are fixed by § 216-8 at 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., a limit adopted to preserve quiet in residential neighborhoods and cross-referenced to the noise-control hours in § 291-6L. Under § 216-14A, garbage, refuse and rubbish must be picked up at least once a week on a schedule the collector sets, though that schedule can shift for holidays, emergencies or by special arrangement.

The Department of Public Works assigns residential pickup by one of eight numbered Public Works zones, and residents can look up their zone and collection day through the township website or by calling the Public Works office.
