Jackson, NJ Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Section 216-12A requires every owner, tenant or occupant in Jackson Township to keep suitable receptacles on the premises for garbage, refuse and rubbish, capped at 96 gallons or met with sealed disposable plastic trash bags, under the general duty set out in Chapter 216, Article III. Section 216-13's precollection rules add further preparation duties: § 216-13A requires garbage and rubbish to be drained of liquid before it goes into the can, and it may be wrapped in paper first. Section 216-13B requires tree trimmings, brush and similar yard material to be cut to no more than three inches in diameter and six feet in length, then tied into bundles no more than two feet thick and no heavier than 30 pounds before being set out for collection.

A hauler retains the authority under this article to refuse collection service for any receptacle or bundle that fails to meet these preparation standards, and a resident whose spilled trash is not promptly cleaned up remains responsible for restoring it to a proper receptacle. These preparation rules apply on top of, not instead of, the Township's separate hours-of-collection and frequency requirements in §§ 216-8 and 216-14, so a bundle that meets the size limits but is set out at the wrong time is still noncompliant.
