Jackson, NJ Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

Section 216-21H makes every resident responsible for providing a recycling container of 45 gallons or less, set out curbside on a biweekly basis according to the Department of Public Works schedule and the current hauling vendor's contract; residents may use larger cans up to 96 gallons only if the contracted vendor approves them for its automated pickup trucks. Containers should carry the free yellow Jackson Township recycling sticker available from Public Works under § 216-21J. Up to seven 45-gallon containers may be placed curbside for a single biweekly pickup under § 216-21L, and all material must be placed curbside before 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day under § 216-21O.

Section 216-22A separately requires that the recyclable materials designated in § 216-21 be kept in a suitable container, separate from other solid waste, clearly labeled, and not exceed 45 gallons in capacity or 50 pounds in weight. Loads found to contain excluded items, such as plastic bags, Styrofoam, drinking glasses or household trash, are left uncollected and marked contaminated under § 216-21N. Used motor oil is excluded from ordinary recycling containers entirely: § 216-22B makes it unlawful to dispose of used oil except through an authorized collection site, which must accept up to five gallons at a time and post a public sign, with any new site requiring written authorization from the Recycling Coordinator and the Mayor and Council.
